Cortona: Franciscan itinerary

 
  • Eremo delle Celle
  • The XIII cent. "Le Celle" Monastary is made of stone, in the characteristic Fraciscan style. It is located near a creekbed of Mt. St. Egidio, at 600 m a.s.l. It was founded by St. Francis, and later became a monastary, frequently visited by the Saint.

  • Sanctuary of Santa Margherita
  • The original church, dedicated to Saint Margaret and built on this site, dates back to the XIII century. The body of the Saint is kept at the main altar of the sanctuary.

  • Church of San Francesco
  • The church, dated from the XIII cent., is currently under restoration.
